…party in the U.S.A.

Here in the United States of America we’ve grown accustomed to certain liberties.  Freedom of speech and the right to petition our government are most definitely not the least among them.

With the ongoing march of technology those particular liberties have taken on forms our founding fathers couldn’t have even dreamed of.

Case and point: We The People, the White House’s public petition website.

For those unfamiliar. This website allows any citizen to set up a petition on any topic and if that petition receives 100,000 digital signatures it’s reviewed by the Administration an official response is issued.

Of course depending on the topic, that statement could range from actual progress (…or attempted at least.  Following the Newtown shootings a petition calling for new gun-control laws reached 100 k in under 24 hours) to a “congratulations you reached the signature threshold but there’s no way we’ll be building a Death Star.”

Something tells me a recently launched campaign to change the National Anthem to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” will fall in the latter category.

I don’t want to question the amount of serious though that went into this plan, but they did misspell the name of the song in the petition.  It’s U.S.A., not USA. I know how strenuous a quick Google search can be.

Although I will say that Miley’s summer anthem would be much easier to sing than “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and really, isn’t there a little bit of that Miley dream in all of us…going through life with a dream and a cardigan?  Keep the dream alive Americans.  You’re only 99,700 (and some change) signatures away.
