…play Hardball

BaseballWell baseball fans, the day has come. We’ve witnessed the end of an era that seemed to be all but a permanent fixture of the great American pastime…

We’re going to need to find a new band of “lovable losers.” Last night the Chicago Cubs went and ended the “curse,” thus destroying a legacy that took over a century to build and won the World Series. I hope you’re happy.

Also, congratulations (especially to the team mascot, Bill Murray), I just hope you’re all able to cope with the shock to the system that this change in team culture will be. Each and every one of you has not known a world where your team is anything but the losingest team in baseball (with the occasional glimpse at greatness…I didn’t forget about that 1945 trip to the World Series). Welcome to the other side.

But since you’re no longer at the bottom of the totem pole, Cubs, let’s talk about your victory song. It makes no sense to sing ,”The Cubs are going to win today,” when you’ve already won. The incorrect tense was endearing when you rarely got to fly the W, now it’s just lazy.

Now, I’m not saying you can’t reclaim that former mantle. It’s going to take hard work, and you’ll have to avoid working into the month of October for at least a decade or ten. I believe in you, history believes in you, but in the meantime we’ll be accepting applications for your replacement. Cleveland and Texas, we’re looking at you…

Mashable: This is the worst thing that could’ve happened to the Chicago Cubs
