For the cave dwellers among us who have not heard, a new pope was selected last week. The announcement came after a mere 5 ballots from the conclave, not even 2 days in. Pope Francis/ Francesco/ Francisco/ Francois/ Franciscus/ Franziskus/ Franciscum I (depending on from whence you hail).
That’s right, you don’t have to learn the rules of roman numerals in order to accurately title the new pope…enjoy.
But the real excitement came mere moments after the announcement when the silent as of late @pontifex uttered its first sub-140 character message since the departure of Benedict XVI (that’s 16 for those who aren’t already fluent):
For those who don’t speak Latin, that’s, “WE HAVE A POPE FRANCIS” …roughly. And that is all you’ll ever see of it, because it was deleted when Pope Francis posted his actual first tweet:
Will he be able to keep up with the arduous Twitter pace his predecessor set? We’ll have to wait and see…exciting times, although I have to question the Vatican’s apparent affinity for deleting old tweets.
This seems to be a step in the right direction for building His Holiness’ personal brand online, perhaps it could be followed up with actually dealing with the child abuse scandals, permitting women to have some level of power in the Church, and allowing the sacrament of marriage to all of its members regardless of their sexual orientation.
