first off, I'd like to congratulate sandy and cosmo for winning the peter lik book! and thank you everyone for participating too. and while I'm at it, thanks also to the random number generator- picking a winner was quick and easy. I'm looking forward to seeing peter's show tonight. I love nature photography and I think it might be fun to see a professional in action.
in other news, sadly, march has shown no signs of exiting like a lamb. nothing a big pot of soup can't cure - which brings me to one of my favorite recipes, potage parmentier. I first heard of this soup when I read the wonderful julie & julia book by the infamous blogger julie powell. the ingredients are so simple I remember thinking, how could I possibly screw this up? plus it is mostly made from potatoes, one of my favorite foods ever invented by god, ever! of course there were no leeks at the market the day I decided to do this so I substituted scallions and have never tried the leeks. one day I promise I will. I also use organic turkey bacon as a garnish as you can see in the photo below. and I should add, we must always have a piece of buttered brick oven bread on hand to use for dipping. it's serious comfort food. if you'd like to try it, click on my chicken scrawled recipe to make it easier to read. stay warm everyone!
