As this Comic-Con weekend comes to a close, there is a lot of film fun to unpack - trailers and phases and projects for screens large and small.
And I think we all know who most of that news came from, but before I get to the Marvel of it all, let's bridge the gap from television to film (and I know Marvel has done that too) with the first "trailer" for "The Walking Dead" film trilogy.
I say "trailer" because this video literally just tells us that the movies (or at least the first) will be released in theaters. Nevertheless, the movies, which will feature the return of the show's lead character (spoiler alert), are highly anticipated, so we'll take all the "trailers" we can get.
Speaking of "trailers" this next one has a little more meat to it (and 100% more puppets). "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance," the sequel to the Jim Henson cult classic "The Dark Crystal" released its first teaser trailer just about a month ago and this weekend gave fans a peek behind the scenes of just how they made this incredible feat of filmmaking and puppetry.
And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about Marvel, who not only crushed Comic-Con with a deluge of reveals, this weekend "Avengers: Endgame" also officially passed "Avatar" as the highest-grossing film.
Even without any trailers, the studio still dominated most Comic-Con conversations with reveals for all of its Phase 4 films and TV series as well as a few glimpses into Phase 5 (including "Blade" with Mahershala Ali). And from the looks of things, Marvel Studios is making good on its promise that this next phase will be more diverse and female-forward. Already we have several gender-swapped casting announcements, a lady Thor, Awkwafina joining the Marvel Universe, and an early look at the Black Widow film (which just started filming a month ago!) is reportedly amazing. And if this concept art is any indication, I'd be inclined to agree.
Finally, I can't write about movies this Comic-Con weekend without taking a moment for a film that may not have been in San Diego, but I can make a strong case for why it should be - it's about singing and dancing cats.
