…Protest

Posted on the 01 May 2017 by Zer @the2women

…ProtestBelieve it or not, it’s May 1st. In addition to giving us hope that the weather will finally have those April showers out of its system, it also means that today is May Day.

It’s been a busy year for protests. Already this year we’ve seen global marches for women and science, protests against infringement on the rights of immigrants and refugees, and countless other demonstrations.

One might wonder if May Day still has a place in a world that seems to be marching on a daily basis. After all, isn’t every day May Day now?

The answer is of course May Day still has a place. In fact, it may be more important than ever. For those not familiar with the protesting side of May Day, it comes from the observance of International Workers’ Day which is celebrated on May 1st every day. Many unions and other workers’ rights organizations use this day as an opportunity to draw attention to the rights of workers.

This year, with the stakes seemingly raised and tension definitely higher, it should be an interesting day. Whether you’re marching today or aren’t quite sure what all the fuss is about, just remember that standing for something will get you a lot closer to success than standing against someone.
