Random but Important Thoughts About Being Single

Posted on the 14 December 2010 by Singleblogger @RachelPRicucci
Good morning,
Just want to get something out of my system that I've been feeling and thinking for a long while...
I think we need to start giving people better advice about being single and start teaching singles new concepts and skills to use while being single. There are so many old cliches, which we hang onto and advise others of...such as "he or she will just show up when you least expect it" or "I found my husband when I wasn't looking..." All of those things are good and great, and may actually just happen (I believe in miracles, and God Bless you if it did happen to you this way), but I think we stand a better chance of advising our single friends and family members more realistically about how to move their lives forward. We need to start changing how society reacts to single people.
Future spouses do not just "show up" at a good time when "we're ready" or "appear out of nowhere"...a good example is, if you are not looking for gold on the beach (something that you truly want to find), what are your chances of finding gold on the beach? Slim to none probably. However, if you are actively looking for that gold on the beach, you stand a much better chance of finding it.
My hope is that we can start being more creative with our thoughts about singles and start being more helpful and less careless and insensitive about the advice that we pass down. It may just change someone's life...
