Welcome to February, fellow crusaders! It’s the shortest month of the year, but it makes up for it with plenty of reasons to celebrate.
There’s Black History Month, Groundhog Day, Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day, and that’s only the first half of the month. Kicking off the month are two events that go together perfectly — Harry Potter Book Night and World Read Aloud Day.
Ask any bookworm when they first fell in love with books, and odds are they weren’t the ones doing the reading. Whether it’s story time at school or bedtime reading with parents, reading aloud is a time-honored tradition for future readers.
In a world of on-demand entertainment it’s a welcome break from screen time. Reading aloud expands the imagination in a different way, and it teaches the skill of listening. Which is something we could all use a refresher on.
Add in an excuse to read Harry Potter, and well, it’s a good day to be a reader or a listener.
