…Reclaim

…ReclaimI have a confession to make. For the past several months I've been a bit preoccupied. Some might call it obsession, but I prefer the term devotion. If you've wandered over to my 2WC Approved page ( here) or checked out my International Women's Day post ( here) you're already well aware of my current fixation with "Six."

For those of you who have yet to discover the Queendom, here's a quick crash course on "Six." This show, by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, can best be described as the Spice Girls meet "The Tudors." I know, that sounds amazing, but there's more.

This tightly packed show is 90 minutes of pure diva power. The divas in this instance are the six wives of King Henry VIII. For my American crusaders who aren't obsessive (devoted) Anglophiles, that means - Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr.

…ReclaimEvery single song in this show is destined to be stuck in your head. They're inspired by pretty much every pop princess and queen you can think of. There's even a handful of Beyonce lyrics thrown in to make sure you will be humming these songs from now until eternity.

In addition to having an entire arsenal of powerhouse anthems, it's a show that chose its moment well. Not only does it have an all female cast, these six queens are backed up by a band of "ladies in waiting." Throw in some casting that's Hamilton-inspired and you have a show that's teed up for world domination.

If you're not willing to just take my word for it (rude.) then you should also know that they're nominated for five Olivier Awards (British Tony Awards) this Sunday. If that last sentence meant nothing to you, just trust me on this, it's kind of a big deal.

Back to my American crusaders, if you're wondering why you should care since you're not in London. I have some good news - there's a North American production opening this May. Even better, it's right in the middle of the country at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. If you're not sure if it's your jam, you can check it out on Spotify ( here).

On that note, I'll leave you to listen. Welcome to the Queendom.
