Happy Monday! I hope everyone came through the long holiday weekend relatively unscathed. I wish I could say the same for Hollywood. The poor silver screen suffered quite a blow this three-day weekend, coming in 44% lower than last year. I think we all know who’s to blame—FIFA.
I’m certain the American’s would’ve headed to the film houses this weekend were it not for their extreme dedication to that international soccer competition that the U.S. team no longer has a stake in.
I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize on behalf of the Americans who couldn’t be pulled away from the World Cup for long enough to patronize their local (internationally owned) theaters.
Shame on you!
Yes, there are a million other reasons we as a country could have chosen to not frequent our favorite film haunts over the last three days, but let’s blame soccer.
It couldn’t possibly have had anything to do with the lovely weather and/or the lack of anything worth seeing this holiday weekend…and poor Wimbledon continues to be overlooked, even by the finger pointers at the box office.
