Congratulations Cardinal Nation, our beloved Cards are officially a successful franchise.
Why?
Not because we’ve once again made it to the NLCS (our eighth time since 2000), although that’s a part of it.
No, it’s bigger than that — other fans hate us.
Now I’m not talking about the “hate” that comes with a rivalry like that of the Cardinals and Cubs. No, this is the kind of hate that is forged over years. It is made out of defeat and the bitterness that comes with it.
I know we think we’re good sports and fun-loving baseball fans (and we are), but to the bitter fan who has watched our victories over the years, we’re just rubbing our success in their faces.
So while it’s tempting to retaliate at the poor soul who hasn’t had the good fortune of being a member of Cardinal Nation, rising above is the better option.
Just remember that when they’re calling your hometown a “dump,” what they’re really saying is “I’m painfully aware of the fact that I’m jealous of your awesome community, and instead of dealing with that fact I’m lashing out at an incredibly decent group of people,” …or something like that.
