Risk

I can't tell you how many times I've met someone new and told them about how I moved from Portland to Charleston to Schenectady, etc, and seen their jaws drop before they said "Wow, you're so brave.  I could never just pack up and leave home by myself."

I didn't actually have a LOT more stuff than this.

And I always say something like "Well it was the hardest thing I've ever done, but also the most rewarding.  I would do it again over and over."
Which is tactful code for "Suck it up and take some risks, or you'll miss out on so many adventures!"
Sure, there have been times I took risks and it flopped big time.  I went after a guy who left me crying myself to sleep for months and months because I kept putting my heart on the line and he kept shoving it away.  I risked a one-night stand and experienced the most awkward and painful sex of my life.  I tried online dating and met many more creepers/assholes (Two of them called me broken.  TWO) than I did nice people (although there were some VERY nice people in that mix).  I even tried chocolate-covered bacon and nearly threw up my intestines.

Chocolate-covered bacon

Such delicious-looking deceit.

But as much as it sucked, I'm still glad I tried all those things.  Because if I hadn't tried them I wouldn't have tried beer.  I wouldn't have tried moving.  I wouldn't have made friends with new people.  I wouldn't have given love another shot.  I wouldn't have started a blog.  I wouldn't have kept up on the blog even in the face of depression.
And frankly, I just wouldn't be who I am today.
So get out there and take some risks.

Risk thief

By which I do not mean "steal multiple copies of the board game Risk."

If you're always hiding at home afraid of what could happen to you, you'll never see or do anything.  Take some risks.  It's worth the times it sucks.
*Note* Jill still recommends safety first.  Don't be stupid, 'kay?
