…roll with It

Golden GlobesTonight’s the night ladies and gentleman. It’s Hollywood’s annual party, showcasing the best of television and movies (as deemed so by Hollywood) over the last year—The Golden Globes.

Unfortunately, 2WC will be otherwise engaged. Sorry we couldn’t make it Hollywood (we’re sure our invitation got lost in the mail) , but due to scheduling conflicts, we’ll be otherwise engaged this evening. We’ll be enjoying our first love—musical theater.

We are totally okay with it, but if anyone so much utters a syllable to either of us about the ceremony before we’re able to view it on Monday evening, we will not be held accountable for our actions. Loud humming, fingers in ears, and an abrupt departure from the conversation may follow the vaguest hint of spoiling the telecast.

We’re not saying it will be easy to avoid all mention of winners, losers, and outrageous moments in this age of social media, but we’re going to give it a go, and we’d appreciate your help.

You’ve been warned.

Today though we’ll suspend our disbelief and share our predictions for “tomorrow evening’s” Golden Globes:

Drama

Best Motion Picture

  • Zer: 12 Years a Slave — This is always a trick category to call.  This could very easily go to Captain Philips.  It is hard to compete with a well-done “based on a true story” thriller starring Tom Hanks, but if any film can do it, it’s this game-changing film about the reality of slavery in the US.
  • Stephanie: 12 Years a Slave — Honestly, I’m not 100 percent sure about this one. I have little doubt that Chiwetel Ejiofor will go home with a win for acting, but this category is a tough one.  I’ve seen all of these films, and they’re all great, but in very different ways.

Best Television Series

  • Zer: Breaking Bad — I have yet to watch a single episode of this series, but I’ve heard enough to know that it’s going to be hard to beat.
  • Stephanie: Breaking Bad — It’s going to happen. We all know this. Also, an early congrats to Bryan Cranston.

Comedy or Musical

Best Motion Picture

  • Zer: American Hustle — I haven’t seen this sure to be Oscar-nominated film yet, but I’ve heard good things.  Plus, it has four and a half Hollywood sweethearts in the lead and supporting roles…I’ll let you guess who the half is.
  • Stephanie: Her — This movie surprised me, and I think a lot of people. It’s not nearly as creepy as the concept could have been. I do concede though that I’ve only seen two of the nominated films in this category, so this is sort of a shot in the dark.

Best Television Series

  • Zer: Modern Family — Last year, I tried to bet against this hilarious series, and it backfired on me.  Odds are, this will be the year the The Big Bang Theory or Parks and Rec, finally get the recognition they deserve, but it wouldn’t happen if I were to pick them…so, you’re welcome.
  • Stephanie: The Big Bang Theory — Since Zer has so kindly taken the burden of choosing Modern Family so that other shows of equal quality may win, I’m going with the always amazing The Big Bang Theory—Bazinga!

Miscellaneous

Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

  • Zer: American Horror Story: Coven — True the season isn’t over yet, but so far, this is Ryan Murphy’s best season so far.  There’s a good chance that the name in the envelope is Behind the Candelabra, but I have yet to see that series, so I’m going with my gut on this one.
  • Stephanie: American Horror Story: Coven — If I’m being honest, I really think Behind the Candelabra will go home with the honor, but Coven deserves all the emotional support it can get. It’s been an amazing season. So, here’s my contribution.

Best Animated Feature Film

  • Zer: Frozen — I’ll keep this short and sweet.  If another movie wins this category, that means they got it wrong…and I wouldn’t be surprised if this shows up in the list of nominees for best picture this Thursday.
  • Stephanie: Frozen — Ditto on everything Zer said. Love this movie. It should win.
