...I think it's trying to tell me something
There are some things that everyone has an opinion about–emoticons and what technological advance will lead to the end of our society as we know it.
Usually the two don’t go hand in hand, but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.
Personally I find them rather harmless–unlike acronyms and abbreviations for easily written out phrases and words.
As long as they stay were they belong, which is far, far away from any professional correspondence.
Mark my words (or an abbreviated version of them), when the demise of the written word leads to the impending apocalypse, this message:
HELP!!! We’re trapped
…is going to get a quicker response than:
OMG!!! ?4U Sup? AIH we r stuck. PLZ HB. Thx. TTYS.
STBY.
Interpretation: Oh My God!!! I have a question for you. What’s going on? As it happens we are stuck. Please hurry back. Thank you. Talk to you soon.
Sucks to be you.
Perhaps it’s more polite and eloquent, but you need an online acronym dictionary to decode it. It seems unlikely your apocalyptic rescuers would have one on them.
So maybe future humans will wonder why we all felt the need to express emotion through unique arrangements of punctuation, and why we wink, smile, frown, wince, etc. at each other sideways.
But will
lead to the end of days? Don’t make me lol.
