The summer of blockbusters is continuing this weekend with our first real dose of girl power — “Pitch Perfect 2.” Yes, I know that “Hot Pursuit,” came out last week, but considering even the kindest of reviews implied that the film was horribly sexist, I think it might be okay to pretend it didn’t happen.
The other reason “Pitch Perfect 2″ is the first real show of female power?
Well, I basically just fed you the answer, but it features a strong female ensemble cast. Plus, it’s one of the first films to have a real shot at knocking “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” out of first place at the box office (with a little help from “Mad Max”).
A few years ago, who would have thought that a little film about a ragtag women’s college a cappella group could take on the Avengers?
The answer, of course, is — no one.
The original “Pitch Perfect,” was a surprise hit, and while the sequel has mixed reviews, the fact that it even exists is a victory in itself. If it’s even half as good as its predecessor, well that puts it well ahead of many summer sequels.
…just for fun:
