Savannah, Hostess City of the South

Thank you Savannah, Georgia for your open arms during our couple day visit this month. My husband and I decided last minute while we had some time off work, to take a couple days and head north to Savannah, GA. Just the two of us. We had a wonderful time. We've been to Savannah before a couple of times with family. Once when the kids were young and once in December 2006 for Christmas. We've always had a great time, this time we found some new places & things to do. It was awesome! Thursday night we started our evening at Abe's on Lincoln, cool little place right off of Bay St. There we met a graduated SCAD student, Lilli, who was a wealth of information and freely provided Savannah, food and bar recommendations. After Abe's we started on the list.

Here's Lilli's recommendations, a Savannah local:

Fine Dining

Lunch / Dinner

Bars

That's a lot of food and bars for two days! This is how we did...

Thursday night, Abe's on Lincoln, (Hotel reception- Staybridge), Velvet Elvis Lounge (or Jinx), Molly's, The Rail Pub and then Zunzi's for dinner.

Friday, at 11:00 AM we went on a walking, eating tour! yep.. thank goodness we were walking. We went on the "Famous and Secret East Side Tour". Which was WONDERFUL! On the walk we hit the following:

One word "Yum, yum, yum!" DELICIOUS!

After all those places and a micro mini rest, we went back to 17Hundred90, we love, love, love this place! We sat by one of the two gorgeous fireplaces in the bar, had a drink and some happy hour apps. Lovely!

Then we veered off the list (my fault) as I saw this cutely decorated English Pub called Six Pence. It was very busy, but we got right in at the bar. We ordered a grilled cheese sandwich to share and my husband ordered French onion soup, plus a couple of drinks. The food and drinks were good, the place very nice. Unfortunately that evening they were very busy and the bartenders were not as friendly as we had experienced in other places in Savannah. I want to note that I did a Trip Advisor review and did cite my concerns, I was contacted immediately by Six Pence to address the issue and make it right. I am very impressed by that. Thank you Six Pence.

Next stop... Moon Brewing Company. We signed up for a Haunted Ghost Pub tour which met at the brewery. Once we meet up with the tour we had a fascinating tour of the Moon Brewing Company. Fascinating and eery! We toured the abandoned 2nd floor of the building. The company has tried for several years to renovate and due to unexplained "ghostly" incidences it has been left unfinished. Creepy! I took 3 pictures with my iPhone in a row, the first one is clear, the second and third have green orbs on them! Woah! See below in these iPhone photos. I have one more where the orb has moved a little too... yikes!

After being a bit freaked out by the stories, it was on to the Hang Fire Bar, 17Hundred90 and Wright Square for more haunted stories. We were happy to visit the 17hundred90 Inn again because it is beautiful! It is a very haunted inn, especially room 204 so I would never stay there! Nope! Oh, want to hear something weird... both our cell phones were freaking out, Rich's started while we were walking through the Colonial Park Cemetery, his phone kept shutting off when he was trying to take a picture. He couldn't get it to come back on until we left the Cemetery. My phone, which never acts up, had 43% charge left on it when we were at 17hundred90, as soon as we walked out of that place it shut off. (We were only inside for about 10 minutes) I kept trying to get it to come on and when it did, it went immediately off showing the 0% charge indicator. We walked back to the hotel room, I plugged in the phone to charge and it immediately went back up to 43%! Someone didn't want their picture taken.

Saturday morning, we finished our food adventure at B. Matthew's Eatery with Brunch, amazing! Then walked around City Market and Congress street shops before heading back to Orlando. Absolutely a great time!

17hundred90, Zunzi's, Molly MacPherson's and Matthew B. Eatery were our favorite restaurants/Bars we visited. The Rail Pub is at the top of the list too.. mainly because the bartender was so friendly! We enjoyed it all!

Everywhere we went everyone was so gracious, friendly and seemed genuinely happy we were there. Southern hospitality at its finest. Thank you Savannah for a great visit, can't wait to go back and hit the rest of these places we didn't have time for on this trip.

Enjoy some non-food related photos of our trip.

Thanks ya'll!
