The scouts are at it again. Which scouts? That’s a good question.
Thanks to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), that question just got even more loaded. Yesterday, BSA announced that in February 2019, their signature program (formerly known as Boy Scouts will officially become Scouts BSA.
The change is a direct reflection of the fact that the Boy Scouts (soon to be Boy Scouts BSA) now allows girls in its troops. For those concerned, Cub and Eagle Scouts was determined to be gender neutral.
Not surprisingly, the Girl Scouts of America had a thing or two to say about that…Which mostly amounted to indifference/confusion at the fact that the BSA continues to not communicate with them.
I’ve added my two cents on the BSA’s inclusion of girls in its programs in the past, so I won’t bore you by repeating my skepticism. But I will reiterate that if the Boy Scouts of America are looking for resources as they embark on this brave, new, inclusive journey, I know a 100+-year-old organization that might be able to help them out.
Maybe we kick things off with the communication badge…
