…scratch That

cat maskIn another apparent victory for the community of female comic fans, Sony teased that it’s working on a female-led Spider-Man spin-off (that’s a whole lot of hyphens).

That’s just about the extent of the definitive info available about the project, aside from the fact that the screenplay is also being penned by a woman (Lisa Joy Nolan).  So, I’m not quite ready to get excited about this yet.

Don’t get me wrong. I think this is a good thing, but I’m not sure how good of a thing, yet. So, I’m withholding my outright approval for the time being.

Although no plot details have been released, there are strong indications that the “female-led Spider-Man spin-off” will be Black Cat. Therein lie two of my main hesitations. What is with the cats, and why must it be referred to as a Spider-Man spin-off?

Can’t it just be another Marvel story (from the Sony side of the family)?

And again, what’s with the cats? I like cats, I do, but there’s something on the objectification side of things about all of the super women being associated with feline qualities.

Ah well, for now, I’ll be excited, it’s a rumored step in the right direction. Next step, a leading female superhero without cat powers. A girl can dream.

No offense Wolverine, but a Storm spin-off would have been so much better:
