…Shake It Up

A few weeks ago it was quietly leaked that yet another traditionally male role is being taken over by a woman. The role this time is none other than 007 himself...or herself.

Don't panic you didn't miss a huge casting announcement, the role of James Bond is still very much up for grabs. The code name 007; however, has reportedly been reassigned to a role played by Lashana Lynch in the final Daniel Craig-led Bond film.

That means you can hold onto your nerd card, for now.

I'll admit, I was a little disappointed when I arrived at this technicality. While a female 007 is a nice surprise, I'm hoping this means the films' creators are contemplating a gender swap in the future for the MI6 agent.

The entire film franchise is built on Bond literally turning into a completely different person every decade or so. If the technically Scottish/Swiss character can without explanation become a Scotsman and Irishman, then he can certainly become a she.

To put it another, slightly nerdier way - "Doctor Who" did it and survived.

Will there be idiots who can't handle it? Of course. The real question is - do you want those idiots supporting your franchise? I'm hoping that the answer is no.

Anyways, that's my two cents. I'll step off my soapbox, and appreciate this small change coming to Ian Fleming's fictional world...but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

...oh, and in the interest of gradually introducing change, might I suggest that our new 007 take her shaken martini with a twist.

...just for fun:

This will ALWAYS be my favorite Bond moment...
