We’re a pretty healthy bunch here at Buy As You View and love using fitness to fundraise for local charities in the communities we serve. In the last year alone, we’ve run half marathons for children’s hospitals and scaled three of the UK’s highest mountain peaks for cancer care. Not to mention the countless local youth sports teams across the country we’ve helped out with new kit and equipment. It’s all part of our 40th anniversary year commitment to raise £40,000 for worthy local causes up and down the country.
Now we’re not expecting our Buy As You View friends and families to push their bodies quite as hard in the name of fitness and fundraising, but we can all make an effort to improve our general health and wellbeing.
Get in Shape This Summer!
Here are three quick and easy tips to get you on the right road to looking good and feeling great this summer:
1. Take control
The best way to kick-start any new diet and fitness regime is to first list out all of the reasons you want to shape up.
Are you wanting to get back to your pre-baby weight? Struggling to keep up with the grand children on days out in the park? Wishing you could fit into last summer’s dresses or worrying you won’t last a full 90 minutes on the pitch with your work-mates when the footie season starts up again?
Write down your goals – and the reasons you want to reach them. Then set yourself realistic targets. Instead of worrying about weight, look at your shape, and ask yourself whether your clothes feel looser. It could mean the difference between giving up and living with your old self for another year, or staying motivated and having a healthy, energy-filled summer.
2. Have a laugh
Fact: laughing boosts the immune system, lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, and burns calories – up to 2.3 calories a minute for a really good giggle. So laugh as much as you like every day, it really is good for you and something that all the family can join in.
3. Best foot forward
Our bodies were designed to move around yet we are getting heavier because we are moving less. Most of us in Britain only average 4,500 steps a day compared to the 10,000 daily steps we should be taking for good cardiovascular health according to The British Heart Foundation. In fact, research has shown that by walking for as little as 30-60 minutes a day, we could lose weight and that’s without changing any other part of our daily routine.
So, put your best foot forward. You’ve got nothing to lose!
