As my fellow Crusader pointed out yesterday (…page through), it’s National Library Week. As a library enthusiast (and regular user), I thought I’d keep the love fest going by sharing some of my favorite secrets of the library.
While books and libraries may seem obsolete in the age of the Internet, e-readers, and tablets that can contain a whole library’s worth of content (and then some), you might be surprised to learn that libraries offer a lot more than just books.
For one thing, they have the Internet, and it’s free. You don’t have to buy anything or pretend to nurse that latte for 4 hours. You just have to show up with your phone, tablet, laptop or any other device with WiFi capabilities. If you don’t have one of those, they’ll let you use their computers.
Not really a technologically savvy individual? They can help you with that too. Most libraries have tech experts on hand to help you find your inner computer nerd.
Of course, libraries do still have the their original claim to fame–the book–on hand, and it’s received some upgrades as well. If you’re worried that your time at the library will make your e-reader feel neglected, well then I have some good news. They have e-books too.
Okay, so they’re not really secrets. They’re all easily available to anyone who chooses to walk into their local library…which, conveniently enough, is number one on the list of things I love about the library.
