Shinhwa: Brand New

Time for another Kimcheed Radio post!

This week, I’m featuring South Korea’s legendary boy band, Shinhwa. Their name literally means “legend” in Korean, but these boys really lived up to their name.

In K-entertainment, pop groups generally have very short lifespans. Most groups stay together for 2-5 years before disbanding to pursue solo careers. But the 6 boys of Shinhwa have been together for 13 years now although the members also have solo activities and have released individual albums. They have not been active as a group in the last two years mainly because some of them enlisted for their mandatory army duty.

What I love about this group is their goofiness. Onstage, they ooze sex appeal and coolness. But on variety shows and TV guestings, they blow me away with their wit and closeness. They are just so adorable individually and collectively.

Shinhwa has released wonderful songs. My first introduction to Shinhwa was through their Eusha! Eusha single, which is just so damned addicting. I keep playing it on repeat. In my head! I even tried learning the choreography but still could not manage to replicate it at all.

But the Shinhwa song that I find so incredibly sexy, to my yeobo’s wonder, is Brand New. I don’t know how to explain its appeal so you might just as well watch it and judge for yourselves.

BONUS: I am also adding the MV for Eusha! Eusha! Why? Just ’cause. And I dare you not to get addicted!
