Sinulog Weekend

Posted on the 17 January 2012 by Piaiamps
With the huge number of people in every place that I go, closed streets that lead to getting lost, sale that gets me frustrated, absence of my college friends, and midterms just around the corner, all of these stress, I swear I could have just spent the Sinulog weekend in my humble room and lay in my cozy bed 24/7. But no, the sister came and Sinulog festival it was.
*Losing the topic
Sigh. I've been having a hard time writing some blog. What a pain.
Back to Sinulog. I woke my sister up earlier than our usual. We have to leave early or we'll get stranded somewhere. The plan was to stop at Jollibee Gorordo and walk to Fuente Circle to watch the parade. Unfortunately, none of it worked. There was a re-routing scheme and the PUJs from Talamban have to turn right to SM then to Colon. We figured to drop by at Colon then ride a jeep that would take us somewhere near Fuente but to no avail. I asked my sister if she'd like to walk from Colon to Fuente. She asked how far it was, then she said it's okay not to. Good thing was, we were at the place where the parade takes off.
It was my sister's first time to watch the festival. As much as possible I wanted her to have a blast even if I am already so stressed about the whole thing. Yes, I think I'm aging. I wanted her to see one of the country's biggest festivals in the most eye-friendly position (she's near sighted, poor thing). I wanted her to see amazing performances. I wanted her to see the performers in their still energized faces. So we walked. And walked. And walked. And found a good spot.

Pasaka Festival Queen, Tanauan, Leyte

Funny thing about Sinulog is that you'd never know where the performers come from unless you somehow caught up with their banners. Case in point, Pasaka Festival from Tanauan, Leyte. They were just there, dancing and dancing and we didn't have any idea that they were kababayans until their queen danced right in front of us.

And she was Festival Queen, 1st Runner Up!

On the other hand, I hate that the festival starts too late. I think we waited for three hours til the parade finally moved. Thus, we had to walk further to see contingents who were actually performing. And look what we found! Heaven!

The Sandiego Dance Company had the Holy Family as main characters
but I only had a photo of Mama Mary

These girls are really pretty in their angelic/princess ballgowns

Sinulog Weekend

We'll make heaven a place on earth ♫♪

Needless to say, I am always most excited about the performers' costumes! I'm a secret fashion agent, you see. The queens always amaze me. How can they dance gracefully, smile pleasantly and look happy in their mountain-high crowns and heavy metal ballgowns? And they have to go through it for like a hundred kilometers! Kidding. I'm not sure exactly how far it was but I think it's about a hundred, or more. :)

Tribu Lingganay Queen, Alang Alang, Leyte

Tribu Lingganay bagged 1st place in Free Interpretation Category and Best in Costume. Hurray to Waray!

Another queen from an i-forgot-what-festival-it-was

And I also love performers who dance gracefully even when they're exhausted, even with bitchy audience, and with the still long distance that they have to painfully endure.

Sinulog Weekend

I forgot where they're from, but this guy made me happy

Sinulog Weekend

He's not graceful at all but he looked at me, so yeah

After seeing Festival Queen 1st Runner Up, I was more than psyched to see who won the Festival Queen 2012. When I saw her in a red and gold ensemble, I knew right then that she deserved to win. She was lovely and very elegant! Black is indeed, beautiful!

Sinulog Festival Queen 2012
It's sad that I only have this but I think it's okay,
it's like a father watching over his  wonderful daughter hehe

Aside from the queen, they also have the beautiful lady worshiping Sto. Niño,
behind her is the king, I think.

Sometimes festivals can be unfair. While others bruise their feet, some just smile. But I couldn't blame them, they're just portraying our culture.

Sinulog Weekend

People around us kept saying she's gay. I hardly cared.
She was  just sitting in a carriage! WTF!

In the end, I can say that everyone was just beautiful. Everyone has his own story. I was just glad I became a part of another glorious event. Although I was exhausted, physically and emotionally, I am happy I joined in the celebration with my sister. It would have been nicer if my friends were here too, but I know they wanted to so I'm happy.
We left at around 3PM. We were both tired. The interval was just too long, our patience ran out. We decided to call it a day and headed off to SM to wrap up the weekend with a pizza. I asked my sister if she enjoyed it, she said it was fine. Acceptable. We ended the day with an overdose of How I Met Your Mother, the best part of the weekend. We're now on Season 4!
I'm no photographer and I doubt I'd ever be. But I love to make stories in scenes that captures my heart. These photos are my favorites, story-wise hehe. I made titles for them, and guess what, they're related haha!

Now that I've no more excuse left to delay my hardcore studying, hello reality. First stop, Oblicon exam on Saturday! Kill me now. So yeah, back to school. Back to where I started. Happy Sinulog everyone! Pit Señor!
