I logged into my blog email today to find this little cherub in there.

Pro-choice satanic feminists molest and assault a group of peaceful pro-life men

This is a post written by Matt Walsh. Despite the fact that the title of this blog alone makes me crazy you should check out his stuff.  Some things I agree with him on, others not so much, but he does have an interesting point of view. Mostly, I find him logical and well thought out but not so much when he rants about Obama Care or abortion.

Clearly this post is about abortion. Well he thinks it is anyway. With a title like that it seems a bit more like slander used as an attempt to push his “pro-life”/anti-abortion agenda.

My position on abortion is quite complex but I’m not going to go into what it is or why it is so because it is totally irrelevant to his post. His post, according to his title, is about a group of people who behaved terribly towards another group of people. And they did behave terribly. What they did was wrong and I am in no way excusing this behaviour in this post.

But…whether or not abortion is OK has nothing; let me repeat, nothing, to do with the behaviour of those for and against it. Are you seriously trying to tell me that whether or not I have the right to have an embryo vacuumed out of my uterus should be down to the poor behaviour  of a bunch of fanaticals? I certainly hope not.

And if you don’t agree with me then perhaps you can ask the Catholic priests if they should all be judged because some of them are paedophiles. Or you could ask people of the Muslim faith if they should all be judged as terrorists because some of them are. Or we could just decide that because of those last two examples that religion is bad altogether and then use it as justification that religion itself simply shouldn’t exist. How’s that for freedom. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Because that’s what this post sounds like to me: a nice big fat rant that abortion shouldn’t exist because there are a bunch of crazies out there going down a fanatical path. And that anyone pro-choice fits the mold. How ridiculous.

Let’s go with that though. Let’s go with the crazies on the fanatical path.

A quick google search tells me that anti abortion violence is SO COMMON there is even a Wikipedia page about it. And I quote:

Incidents of violence have included destruction of property, in the form of vandalism; crimes against people, including kidnappingstalkingassaultattempted murder, and murder; and crimes affecting both people and property, including arson and bombings.

Murder? WTF? That sounds pretty crazy and fanatical to me. So hang on a minute. If the crazy behaviour of a particular group of fanaticals is dictating whether or not we should be for or against something then this now tells me that we should be against whatever this group is banging on about. Which in this case is abortion is bad. So based on their behaviour we should all now be pro-choice. Are you with me?

Obviously not as this argument is completely flawed. We have fanatics on both sides, like you do with everything. Duh. So that whole let’s just be against what the fanatics are for approach doesn’t help us.

We know what the truth is here and that is that these crazy incidences of murder and the like are no more a representation of everyone who is pro-life than these “feminists” in Argentina are an indication of all who are pro-choice. So what we are left with is simply our own moral judgement on the issue. And that is as it should be.

I don’t care which side of the abortion fence you sit on. In fact, it’s none of my damn business. But if you want to convince me of your position then don’t go around slagging people off in order to do it. Or pretending the crazies are the centre of the issue. They’re not and we all know that. Just give me the facts about the subject, throw me a persuasive argument or two, you know the ones about actual abortion and when life begins and stuff, and I’ll do the rest for myself. In my own brain. Without letting the fanatical behaviour of someone else have anything to do with my decision.

PS. Don’t forget I am putting together a post of anonymous stories from mamas who, like me, had trouble bonding with their baby. I’d really love to hear from you if you have a story to tell about this. You can read more on this project here.

I blog Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pop in and see me then so I can regale you with my stories.
