…Step Out of the Sun

…Step Out of the SunWelcome to the second day of summer and a personal reminder from me to you to wear your sunscreen. That's it, that's the post.

Okay, not really, but I promise to try not to be a total buzz kill. After all, it's summer and the sun is shining and even the palest among us (hi, that would be me) are looking forward to some extra vitamin D. And I promise this is the last you'll hear from me on this subject...until next summer (it's tradition).

I'm not going to tell you what level of SPF to use or what brand to buy or have a debate over chemical vs. mineral sunscreens. I'm just here to provide a little extra motivation to do the right thing and protect yourself from the sun, preferably year round but especially during the summer.

First, here's a reminder that skin cancer affects more than 3 million people worldwide each year. Oh and some tips on sun protection (spoiler alert: it's not just sunscreen). Finally, in the interest of presenting a balanced view, a rather compelling counter-argument to going overboard with sun protection. Moderation is pretty much always a good thing, so I can get behind most of this.

And that's all. See, quick and painless...unlike skin cancer.

Now that's it. That's the post. Enjoy the rest of your first weekend of summer...just maybe consider enjoying it with some SPF, a hat, and some sunglasses...no matter your skin tone, but especially my fair-skinned and green, grey, and blue-eyed babes...okay, now I'm done.

...just for fun:

And if you won't listen to me, consider the words of Baz Luhrmann (yes, that Baz Luhrmann)...who is reciting the words of Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich ...
