…stick Your Neck out

…stick your neck out

Facebook has given us many wonderful things, “likes”, “friends”, “status updates”, and many more “hypothetical” versions of previously existing nouns and verbs.

Then there’s the “inside joke.”  If you’ve ever been on Facebook, innocently scrolling through your news feed and noticed a random pattern. Maybe it’s an unusually high number of profile pictures with cartoons in them. Perhaps all of your friends have shared incredibly vague but similar single word status updates.

This week, it’s giraffes.

For those not “in” on the “inside joke.” Let me explain: About a week ago a riddle started circulating around Facebook.

I don’t believe in spoilers, so I won’t give you the answer, but here’s the question:

3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors, It’s your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?

You get it wrong—and judging by the number of giraffes on my Facebook news feed right now, a lot of people are getting it wrong— you have to change your profile picture to a giraffe for 3 days.

I know, there’s no real harm in it, and it’s fun in a way, but what about the giraffes? When did giraffes become a symbol of riddle failure?  Last week, is the answer to that question.

The answer to the riddle is your eyes. Sorry to spoil it, but the giraffe shaming has to end. They’re too cute for this. What’s next? Baby pandas, koalas? Where does it end?!?
