Storytelling at Caplansky’s Deli

caplansky's storytelling

My facial muscles are still joyfully aching after attending the storytelling event at Caplansky’s Deli last night.

I arrived on my own not knowing what to expect. I ordered a Red Stripe and anxiously waited for my friend S. to arrive. The place was packed and I sat upfront by the mic. I’ll admit, at first I felt a little awkward drinking beer and watching the show alone (my friend was running a tad bit behind) but by the time S. finally arrived, I was all settled in: I happily munched on an oversized, juicy burger while gleefully devouring the stories being told — utterly oblivious of my aloneness.

All of the stories were real and each and every single performer was so captivating! At one point, I looked around the room and there was this overwhelming sense of connection. Brought on by a roaring fit of laughter, tears rolled down cheeks and infectious from the belly laughter bounced and echoed off the walls. Ridiculously happy patrons sat on the edge of their seats grinning like cheshire cats and the myriad of gasps and cheers caused by storytelling twists was euphorically intoxicating.

Midway through the show, S. leaned in and whispered, “I don’t want this to end!” I had the exact same thought.

Hands down, the storytelling event at Caplansky’s Deli was one of the best nights I’ve had in a very long time. I can hardly wait for the next show!!

S.
