…stow Away

Last week it was ruled that the FAA would officially be allowing passengers to keep their electronic devices on through takeoff and landing…and cries of joy were heard across the land.

Because what’s worse than being forced to momentarily abandon your epic game of “Words With Friends” for a few minutes?

Poverty, war, hunger, famine, murder, cancer, and distracted fellow passengers in the case of an emergency…just to name a few.

Personally, the rule change really doesn’t bother me. I like to spend takeoff and landing doing forearm strengthening exercises…by gripping the arm rest as tightly as I can, while doing my best to not look like I’m afraid of flying, which I’m not…I’d just like to be completely aware if something goes wrong…there’s a difference. But who am I to deprive others of their electronic (via WiFi) fun?

I’m sure that the change in policy will in no way affect the attentiveness of my fellow fliers.  It’s not like we have evidence of people being distracted by their electronic devices in absolutely ridiculous situations.

Here’s hoping that in the event of a change in cabin pressure every one’s able to put on their own oxygen mask and don’t have to wait for their neighbor to look up from the latest YouTube video, secure their own mask first (of course), and then assist others.
