“…Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life…”

Oscar Wilde
“The Decay Of Lying: An Observation”

I couldn’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard this quote referenced,  flipped, reversed, paraphrased, and then quoted just for good measure, and I couldn’t even tell you if I agree with it. But I can tell you I hope it’s true…in most cases…

We’ve already seen more than a few responses to current politics pop up in shows, and tonight is the cathartic moment (fingers crossed) that gladiators have been waiting months for.

She’s back…

After a week delay (ironically to air a special featuring our new President), “Scandal” returns this evening, and we have never needed Olivia Pope more. For all of its political and personal drama, we would be so lucky that the “Scandal” reality was our own.

Last season brought not one, but two viable female presidential candidates…from the Republican party. And in Scandal-reality certain, “completely fictional” (alternatively so?) candidates didn’t even make it past the primaries. Seriously, can we get that reality mirror up and running guys?

I presume this evening’s premiere will be rife with reactions to certain recent events, and “Scandal” isn’t the only show with such “audacity.” The “The Good Wife” spinoff (because it’s been gone so long), “The Good Fight,” reportedly reshot its opening scenes post-election.

And I know there are those out there that will see this as overstepping: “Liberal Hollywood forcing their agenda down our throats.” And to those people, I say: “Change the channel.”

I look forward to seeing these stories of strong women take shape, and perhaps (if Oscar Wilde is to be believed) shape our own stories.

…bi-daily smile…
