Summer Traditions.

summer traditions. Sizzzzzzzzzle.
As much as I adore spring, autumn, and the holidays, I feel like as I'm getting older, perhaps even more crotchety, summer is my favorite season. Just like the holidays give us permission to indulge a little more, the summer allows us to slow down a bit in what sometimes feel like an overwhelming world.
Taking advantage of this quiet time that France seems to really encourage, the first leg of our vacation was spent house-sitting my in-laws' house out in Saint Pierre (about two hours outside of Paris). Because Aurel's vacation hadn't officially started, he commuted while I passed my days reading, working on my book, taking walks, picking zucchini and Kale Project kale from my mother-in-law's garden, and enjoying the tranquility of a small French village reminding myself a bit of Charlotte Rampling's character in Swimming Pool. Well sort of. Instead of sharing the space with a sassy French blond who tanned in the nude and hosted men in the living room, I had the company of a kitty who I was told goes by the name Tara who crawled in from the bathroom window every day to say bonjour.
summer traditions. Living Van Gogh!
A summer tradition I've always enjoyed is listening to candied, catchy pop songs on Top 40 radio to guess which will be the "song of the summer". Or rather, my song of the summer. While I haven't found my "Blurred Lines", and can't bring myself to sing along to Iggy Azalea because I tried once and sounded like a total asshole, I did however, find this darling song by Yannick Noah that I am loving. A little jam reminding us to slow down a little....after all, it is summer.

We're back in Paris for a pit stop before heading down to the South in the morning. For the first time in I want to say five years, I am leaving my laptop behind for our house-sitter to use. Saying that, I will be somewhat connected and invite you to follow my adventures on my Instagram account here.
What's your song of summer 2014?
