My running track at work has the greatest views {and forgive the low-quality iPhone pictures I captured those views in}. I use it occasionally during lunch or right after work when I either can’t get myself moving in the morning {or spend too much time updating my social media and commenting on blogs, which I also do first thing in the morning before I head to work}. And it never fails to motivate me. It’s even got a view of the USS Missouri and the Arizona Memorial down at Pearl Harbor.

As you might have gathered from Friday’s post, I’ve gotten back into running in a big way. I tore my calf when I was running around in Virginia {hello, overtraining} and it took a while for it to get back to normal. Luckily it didn’t impact our summer travels, but it’s been really hard, not being able to run. I didn’t realize until I started running again just how much my mood depends on being able to get good regular exercise.

I was even able to get out for an 8K run Saturday morning, and it was for a great cause. If you’re not familiar with Fisher House, they’re kind of the military version of the Ronald McDonald houses some hospitals keep for the families of loved ones with extreme illnesses and injury to stay for free while their loved ones are being treated. The 8K was both a memorial run and an outreach on behalf of Fisher House. Over 5000 people turned out for it, which was fabulous!

There were a pair of boots for every service member who’s been killed in action since 9/11 out lining the route, and it was extraordinarily moving to see them all there, and to see the number of folks who turned out to honor them. And amazing to see and have an amazingly friendly exchange with one in particular, but more on that later {oh, I know, vaguebooking, but seriously, this particular encounter deserves its own post}.

So that’s my weekend update so far. But as per norm, let’s take a look at what else is going on around here!

Currently…

In…Hawaii and Florida. Still. We are a house divided. I would say only by distance, but it isn’t the distance that’s been the hard part. It’s the six hours time difference that’s been the hard part. But I’ve been keeping busy with things like this:

Can you paint with all the colors of the…Behr? Okay, it doesn’t have the same ring to it, but that’s what I’ve been doing. These are the sample paints I picked up, and I’m testing them to see if we really want to put them on the walls we thought we wanted to put them on. I’ve got a slate blue, a pale blue, a silver-white, and a red for a couple accent walls we’ve picked out. We also want a true white for the trim, moldings, and baseboards, but we don’t really need to test that.

Feeling…happy and productive, and a lot less stressed than I’ve been feeling the past couple of weeks. Like I said, a huge amount of my mood depends on my physical activity. Running has really perked me up and given me the energy to tackle all the projects I have going on and the upcoming work week – which is going to be really busy!

Reading…two online ebooks about social network analysis for my upcoming class. I managed to tie into a continuing education class at the Naval Postgraduate School that’s all about social networks, so you can imagine how excited I am! Even if it means a lot of extra reading, studying, and lab periods. Work isn’t work when it’s fun!

Writing…this blog. And really thinking about the comments I write {I detailed my struggles with whether or not to speak up on certain issues earlier this week in this post}. I love to provide feedback, but I’ve really started examining the blogs I comment on to make sure they’re open to real feedback vs. just supportive feedback. And I’ve had to take a look at the things I post and really think about just how open I am to feedback. It’s a tricky thing.

Cooking…the last of the stuff that’s been left in the pantry. My goal is to keep the pantry pretty much empty except for sealed containers of baking supplies and rice. Things go bad in all of two seconds here in Hawaii, so pretty much everything else I’ve bought is living in the fridge or the freezer. That at least made for an easy design decision in the new kitchen: no, we don’t need a separate pantry. I’m working on a fun recipe for this week, as well. We’ll see how it comes out!

Clicking…on closet makeovers. I’m looking for little projects to do in the house so that we can save up for the kitchen, floors, ceiling, and all the other big projects we need to take care of, and the master closet is a perfect project. It’s small, it’s cramped, there’s no space for anything, and there’s a wall where there shouldn’t be. As soon as I figure out whether or not that wall is structural…closet, it’s on.

Listening…to my coffee shop Pandora station. It’s all singers and songwriters, all acoustic, all hipster, all day. Makes me wish that my last shipment of stuff, the things we had shipped out of Virginia after my school, would hurry up and get here because my guitar is in there with them.

Smelling…the cedar of my desk. Scott made the entire top out of cedar and there are just some misty mornings where it smells absolutely divine, especially when mixed in with the smell of hazelnut coffee.

Thinking…I need to go downstairs and do my yoga. I’ve gotten in the habit of doing a short yoga routine every morning before I get started on things, and that holds true even on weekends. Especially today since I’ve got another hike planned. I love having friends who hike – it’s such a fun way to get exercise, fresh air, and explore the island!

Wishing…to appreciate a little bit of stability. This is the fourth Sunday Currently in a row where I’ve been able to say I’m in the same place, and that place is Hawaii. Have I seriously been here for four weeks already? How did that get by me? Okay, let’s add in that I’m wishing I was better at living in the moment and not wishing it away, too.

Wearing…at the moment, the oversized t-shirt and old shorts that are serving as the pajamas of the day, since all my regular jammies are in the wash. It’s early on a Sunday morning, and I do not feel the need to be a fashion statement since the only other person who ever witnesses my Sunday mornings is in Florida. Don’t judge me.

Loving…the commentary and discussions I discover both on this blog and on the ones I follow and comment on. There are some seriously wonderful people out here in the blogosphere, and I learn something from them every time I interact with them. Okay, I learn from some of the bad ones, too, but let’s give all the love to the good ones :)

What’s on your mind, currently?
