…Take A Step Back

downton_abbey_season 3

The moment has (at last) arrived Downtonians.  We are in the final hours of a countdown that began in September.  A countdown dripping with bitterness, a bitterness only steeled by recent spoilers.

However, it’s hard to stay mad on such a day as this.  Sure, the American public has showered Downton with praise, invited Lord and Lady Grantham (et. al.) into our homes and award shows, only to be forced to enjoy the antics of the Crawley clan nearly 4 months after our UK brethren, who couldn’t at least have the courtesy to conceal certain monumental plot points, but let us all let bygones be bygones.

There is in fact a silver-lining.  While the third series has come to a conclusion in the UK, today, it is all still ahead of the US audience: the hopes, the dreams, the trials, the tribulations, the heartache, the  extreme heartache, the gut-wrenching heartache…

You know, the kind of heartache that can only happen when someone who you think is your friend invites to a party 4 months after all of their other friends have arrived and just before you arrive plasters the Internet with stories revealing the final plot point of the season…

…but we digress…

Today is a day to move past all the resentment and bitterness.  Today, the US audience returns to Downton Abbey.  Yes, we might be a little late to the party, but at least we are all in this together…

Unless, of course, you happen to be a member of the American elite, who apparently is a “bigger” fan purely because she resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue…not cool, First Lady, not cool.

Although our snark may rival that of the Dowager Countess; we, like Lord Grantham, cannot stay ill-tempered for long.

With that, we now leave you to soldier through the final hours until we finally return to the halls of Downton Abbey, where intrigue reigns, someone is always listening (probably Anna), and grand things are bound to happen.
