…Take With A Grain Of Salt

…Take With A Grain Of SaltNew York City’s diet is once again under attack.

Already threatened with downsized soft drinks, citizens and visitors are now being asked to cut back on their salt.

Which isn’t a bad thing, too much of any one item in your diet is a bad thing.  Variety is the spice of life, and a good thing in your diet too.

However, an ad campaign against salt in a city with a history of dietary control issues (ie- trying to cap the soda sizes), can raise a few eyebrows.

This mineral was once used as currency in many parts of the world.  To many, it was worth more than gold.

Consider idioms like “Salt of the Earth” and “Worth your salt.”  These speak to the power that salt once possessed.

Has this seasoning really been reduced to a mere heart attack and stroke inducer?

More importantly, have we been reduced to a society without self-control?  Do we really need to have our food chosen and measured out for us?

Can we have our salt and eat it too (in moderation)?
