I have a theme this week. Have you noticed what it is?
Yes, it’s the government shutdown and its impact on the most noblest of American pastimes: Beer. It’s kind of like Oktoberfest, if Oktoberfest meant everyone stopped doing their jobs. Tuesday’s was a tale of triumph, today’s is one of woe.
The shutdown has taken another victim: microbreweries.
Due to a little known but powerful arm of the Treasury Department new breweries cannot start up and new beers cannot be sold.
Can you feel the unrest building?
All I’m saying is we all know what happened when the tea tax was too high…
I can see it now: And they will say of us, it was a revolution fought not on a physical or political battlefield, but at the local watering hole.
Will this be the final straw? Only time will tell. Perhaps you can contemplate the thought over a pint…while you still can.
