It’s on musical theater fans and Twitter snark aficionados.

NBC finally has some competition for their live musical broadcasts.

Fox is throwing their hat in the live musical broadcast ring; hoping to catch some of that live musical broadcast love (and lots and lots of snark) that NBC enjoyed last holiday season with their live broadcast of “The Sound of Music.”

“Grease” will be coming to your TV (and Twitter stream) sometime in 2015, and everyone seems to be really excited about it. Clearly, these people haven’t seen the staged production of this musical.

The network hasn’t said much beyond the fact that they’ll be featuring a young ensemble cast (which I believe is code for we won’t be casting a country music star who can’t act in the lead just to bump ratings), but you all better hope they’re planning on sticking closer to the movie than the stage show.

You won’t recognize it otherwise. I wouldn’t call it a bad show. It’s definitely not my favorite, but if viewers were surprised by the slight differences between the film and stage version of “The Sound of Music,” then the realization that “Grease” on stage is nothing like the Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta driven movie of the same name may result in outright Twitter outrage.

But let’s not count those chickens before they hatch. For now we can sit back, relax and let the casting speculation begin. Check back in on Sunday for 2WC’s thoughts on the matter.

Speaking of casting, NBC, any time you want to announce the “Peter Pan” cast, I’m ready.
