The Craft of Gezelligheid

Posted on the 18 June 2013 by Rarasaur @rarasaur

Crafting with my husband is one of my favorite activities.  In general, I’m the sort of person who likes to do things and, with his help, those actions become artistic accomplishments as well.

Recently, we took the leftover gift tissue paper from my best friend’s bridal shower and turned the pile into lovely flowers for her rehearsal dinner.

It was a surprisingly simple project.

Together, Dave and I have tackled big and small projects alike.  We’ve built shelves, painted designs on walls, made candles, written books, sewn quilts, designed scarves, turned toys into keychains, and made collections of jewelry.

The process of taking scraps and pieces of nothingness and turning them into something that someone needs, or wants, or will appreciate– that’s gezelligheid to me.

Do you craft?

How to Make a Flower from Tissue Paper

  1. Cut the tissue paper into a rectangle.  The length of the short side will be the diameter of your flower.
  2. Stack 6 or 7 of your rectangle-cut tissue paper on top of each other.  The bottom sheet will be on the bottom, the top sheet will be on the inside.  I used green for my bottom sheet.
  3. Accordian-fold the rectangle, from the short side.  Each fold should be an inch or inch and a half wide. It’s  going to get a little messy, but that’s okay.
  4. Then put a twisty tie in the middle of the folded up tissue paper. Twist it in place so that the extra length dangles on the side of the bottom color.
  5. Cut shapes into the folded up tissue paper.
  6. Then unfold the tissue paper so that it makes a flat circle looking flower.
  7. Then peel each layer, one at a time.
  8. Enjoy your flower
