I find it kind of amusing that I get invited to a good number of fashion events. Other than the series I wrote on the fashion tips I picked up at Bellanor Boutique's Cury Fashionista class, I don't write about style tips, fashion trends, designers, or anything else related to the fashion industry. However, over the last 3 plus years since I started blogging I have gotten to know a couple of models, store owners, and stylists. These connections are what gets me invited to the various fashion events happening in Philadelphia.
While I don't have the passion for fashion like my style blogger friends, I do always enjoy myself at these events. I really like the fact that Philadelphia does have a thriving fashion scene that is growing. As a matter of fact the #17DaysofFashion are still going on here in Philly right now. On Saturday Night I got to go to a great Fashion Show at Dressbarn. What I like the most about the events that I get invited to is that I see models of all sizes. I am not a small girl. It makes me feel good to see models who are not all super thin. I love seeing women who are average size or even a little bigger showing off the latest fashions and styles. It's nice to know that the latest trends and styles are for us bigger girls too. It's fantastic to see women whose body types resemble my own looking beautiful, edgy and sexy. Here is one of my favorite looks from the Saturday Night Fashion Show at Dressbarn. I liked this dress so much I came home with it.
Lucky me, I will have the pleasure of attending another fashion event in a few weeks. I have been invited to attend the “The Pretty in Pink Fashion Showcase and Gala” presented by Curvy Closets. I know there will be lots of models showing fashions that I can relate to and enjoy. At the Gala local boutiques, independent designers, and major retailers will show Philadelphia’s plus size population that they have purchasing options. I wonder if I will come home with a purchase like I did this weekend.
The Gala is taking place on Saturday, October 12th, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at the Crane Arts (1400 N. American Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122). I am really looking forward to attending. Tickets are $40. A portion of the proceeds raised will go to benefit, Hairless4HerAwareness a non-profit organization, whose mission is to promote Breast Cancer awareness internationally. When I attend these fashion event's I always leave with a confidence boost. Seeing women who are not your stereotypical models, who look more like me than the women I usually see in magazines, who are confident, beautiful, fierce, bold, sexy and proud of their bodies makes me feel more proud of my own. I leave these events thinking more about ways that I can put together looks that make me feel as confident and bold as them.
Have you ever attended a fashion event? What was your experience like? If you blog what unique or amusing events or experiences have you had since you started blogging? If you are in the Philadelphia Area will you be at the “The Pretty in Pink Fashion Showcase and Gala” presented by Curvy Closets? I hope to connect with some of you there.
