…think of Lovely Things

…think of lovely thingsYesterday, NBC made many, many theater fans very happy yesterday with the announcement of their next live musical: Peter Pan.

No word yet as to whether Ms. Underwood will be available (too soon?).

Once we’d all calmed down from our gleeful celebrations, the snark and predictions immediately followed.

Of course, there’s been no official announcement yet about the casting, but NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt was kind enough to immediately ease any fears of Justin Beiber donning Peter’s green tights next December.

He also dropped a hint that a young man will be playing the role.

Peter Pan purists are of course aware that the role of Peter is usually (but not exclusively) played by a woman. Mary Martin originated the role and U.S. gymnast Cathy Rigby has been flying high as Peter for decades.

So, regardless of who they cast, they have guaranteed snark. Here’s hoping it’s confined to opinions on the gender of the casting and not the talent.

For my part, I am pro-talented casting—boy, girl, it doesn’t matter to me, just please let them be worthy of the role. I think America’s made that much clear NBC.

In case you missed it, 2WC have already placed our official guess/vote for the lead role:

After much deliberation, we'd like to officially guess/vote for Daniel Radcliffe as the title role in @nbc's #PeterPanLIVE.—

It would be brilliant, just saying. NBC, if you want to chat, Zer and I have thoughts on the other leads as well. Captain James T. Hook could be amazing, and we’d like to discuss Smee.
