The world of sports has been by no means immune to the advancements in technology. Games that use to rely solely on the eye and judgment of a few trusted (I use the term loosely) officials, now extend ever on into eternity as instant replay has caused us to not only question their authority, but establish rules that require them to question their own rulings.
Challenges, you are a blessing and a curse. Of course, the instant replay is far from precise. The cameras only have so many angles and none of them are precisely from that of the referee…until now.
The WNBA revealed the ‘ref cam,’ a camera which the referee wears on his or her face (sort of like Google Glass, but bulkier), allowing for the viewers at home to have a unique perspective…for now.
It is only a matter of time until this camera is used as a point of reference for overturning a call…please don’t athletic powers that be.
I understand the competitive spirit, the desire to win and not be robbed of victory by a bad call, but human error is a part of life and sports. Human beings miss things, make the wrong call, and blink from time to time. That’s part of the excitement—the mistakes.
