To the Men I Dearly Love

Posted on the 17 June 2012 by Ladymoxie @ladymoxie2012

It’s Father’s Day today and the world over is celebrating fatherhood and male parenting. Today, we give honor to all the fathers who helped shape our lives, nurtured us and loved us for who we are.

Personally, fatherhood is not limited to men who biologically sired children but also for those who forged fatherly relationships with others. Despite the absence of blood relations, these father figures have influenced the lives of others, supported them through whatever means. To me, they should also be thanked.

In honor of this day, I dedicate this post to my two favorite men. I am not very demonstrative when it comes to my affection (except on my kids) but I would like to take this opportunity to thank the man who raised me and loved me for most of my life and the man with whom I will share the rest of my life.

To Daddy

Thank you for everything that you have done for me and my brother. Thank you for the years of sacrifices you have made to ensure we are fed, clothed and schooled. We are where we are because of you. But most of all, thank you very much for loving us despite our shortcomings. We are truly blest to have you for our father.

To the Men I Dearly Love

I know I have not been a very good daughter. I am rebellious and hard-headed. But I hope you know that I love you (and mom); there is nothing I would not do for you and your happiness.

I may have my own family now but I am still Daddy’s girl. You are still the man who lavished me with love and taught me to be strong. Please take better care of your health. I nag you about your smoking not because I know better that you now but because I do not want to lose you. I am not prepared to lose you. I don’t know if I’ll ever be. So please, Daddy, take care.

To Dada

Thank you for coming to my life. For years I prayed for God to give me a good man, but He gave me someone better: YOU. Thank you for accepting me – imperfections and all – wholeheartedly.

I know it’s hard putting up with my mood swings but do know that I love you and will stick by you through thick and thin. Whenever I nag you about your whereabouts, it’s not because I don’t trust you but because I worry about you.

You initially wanted me be a stay-home mom for the kids; I wanted to be one too but we both know how expensive it is to raise kids these days. So thank you for letting me work. I promise to still fulfill my duties to the family.

You’re well aware of my ineptitude when it comes to domestic chores especially in the kitchen, right? I will never be a Top Chef but I’m learning to cook and I am making some progress.

We may not have everything in the world but I am happy and proud to be your wife and the mother of your children.

To Daddy and Dada, I love you both very, very much!
Happy Father’s Day!
