If you’re a foodie, you need some awesome food blogs to follow, ones that will show you the ins and outs of cooking, the beauty of presentation, and a few cool tricks that you might not even be able to imagine trying but are cool just the same. I’m going to share with you my top ten favorite food blogs at the moment, and a little bit of why I love them.

To start with, here are my top five go-to’s. These are the places I check out when I need a good recipe for an ingredient that no one else will be able to cook properly, when I need some styling inspiration, or when I just need to look at beautiful food photos:

  • Smitten Kitchen. Deb cooks amazingly beautiful and delicious meals in a shoebox-sized kitchen in New York. She’s a self-admitted obsessive home cook, but I can guarantee that whatever recipe of hers you’re trying, it’s going to be good. Seriously, I’m addicted to her buttermilk biscuit recipe, as those of you who’ve been around for a while know.
  • Joy the Baker. She’s beautiful, she’s sarcastic, she has tattoos, she bakes. What’s not to love about Joy? Her recipes are beautiful, delicious, and, if you follow her directions, not too tricky to make yourself! She also has beautiful photos to feed your food cravings!
  • Rantings of an Amateur Chef. Pat, the ranting chef, likes to eat, cook, and rant. He spends as much time as possible in the kitchen, and curates a huge number of delicious recipes and entertaining guest bloggers {including my oh-so-humble self}.
  • The FarmGirl Cooks. Kasha started out publishing recipes to help the folks shopping at her family’s vegetable farm figure out what they’re going to make with their bushels of kale, cilantro, and more exotic ingredients. She publishes beautiful, beautiful food pictures to go along with them.
  • Localette. Jen, my high school classmate and friend, is my food and photography idol. Seriously, this girl takes THE most beautiful pictures EVER. And her recipes are f@#$ing phenomenal. Check her out.

Now for five brand new favorites that I just can’t stop reading. Saveur recently held their voting for the Best Food Blog Awards for 2013, and I was excited to see some of my favorite food blogs winning. I also discovered several new food blogs to love during this competition – here are five of my new favorites:

  • Seattle Food Geek. Everything you could want to know about modernist cooking {also molecular gastronomy, which I have become a HUGE fan of recently} and how to implement it easily in your own kitchen. It feeds both the geek and the chef in me, and it’s nice to know there’s another one out there!
  • The Roaming Kitchen. The culinary journeys of a dedicated home chef who left university, moved to Madrid, moved to Paris, went to Le Cordon Bleu {can I say HUGELY envious???} and then ended up in New York, and still cooks beautiful meals and takes beautiful photos.
  • Thug Kitchen. I started reading this site and started laughing, because mixed in with the bouts of profanity that beat the best drill sergeants is some sage food advice and some damn good recipes. Don’t read too much in a stretch, though, because you’ll find yourself telling your office mate to unjam his own f#$%ing b@#$ a@# printer paper tray because you gotta read food blogs like a boss.
  • For the Love of the South. Now let’s swing a massive 180 from the last one and go back to the land of real gentle-like folk who say please, thanks, and y’all enough to get you twanging along with them. This smart, savvy girl was on track to work for NASA but instead used her geography expertise to show how food defined regions, specifically the South. Bonus: her photography and presentation is awesome.
  • Jet City Gastrophics. My inner nerd and inner food nerd are doing an absurdly happy dance of joy for having stumbled upon this particular blog. It’s a crew of guys who are deep into the science of modernist cuisine. And occasionally like to blow stuff up, too. My kind of people!

Check these out if you get a chance, and if you want to see some creative people doing some cool stuff. With food. :)

Have you discovered a great new blog lately? Share!
