Second are survivors family and close friends of victims who often suffer enormous grief and tangible losses. The harm to this class is immeasurable but punishment of the defendant cannot reverse or adequately compensate any survivor&rsquo s loss. An execution may provide revenge and therapeutic benefits. But important as that may be, it cannot alone justify death sentences. We do not, after all, execute drunken drivers who cause fatal accidents.

The Bible is a book about God, of course, as it is a book about human love but it is also, from the very beginning, a book about human sexuality. The Bible says (Genesis 6:77) that human beings are created &ldquo in the image of God&rdquo (the Bible is a book about God) and created &ldquo male and female&rdquo (it is also a book about human sexuality). This should not surprise us, because God&rsquo s plan for human sexuality tells us a great deal about God and about human love.

The human being is the guardian of the clearing, of the disclosive appropriating Event [of being]. He is not the clearing himself, not the entire clearing, nor is he identical with the whole of the clearing as such. But as the one ecstatically "standing out" into the clearing, he himself is essentially cleared [ gelichtet ], and thus cleared himself in a distinguished way. Therefore, he is related to, belongs to, and is appropriated by the clearing. Da-sein's being needed as the shepard of the clearing in a distinguished manner of belonging to the clearing.
So Locke was able to use the account of natural rights and a government created through contract to accomplish a number of important tasks. He could use it to show why individuals retain certain rights even when they are subject to a government. He could use it to show why despotic governments which attempted to unduly infringe on the rights of their citizens were bad. And he could use it to show that citizens had a right to revolt in instances where governments failed in certain ways. These are powerful ideas which remain important even today.
