When Mangoes Attack!

Posted on the 09 May 2012 by Susiemcbeth @susiemcbeth
Did you know that if mango gets in your hair, it pretty much dreds it straight away? I am guessing you probably didn't know this - Funnily enough I didn't either. That was until Indigo commandeered the spoon carrying a little mango puree cargo that was supposed to journey to her belly, but instead got flicked into my hair 'Crouching Tiger-style.' She is quick. I didn't even see it coming until fragrant bits of mango hit me in the face and hair. She found this immensely funny, as did River. I was not the only victim, mango spatter pretty much hit everything in sight including the sofa, laptop, and River. Our living room smelt very tropical for a good few hours, which for some reason made me want to drink a can of Lilt...which is weird as I am not even that much of a fan of its "totally tropical taste."
There should be some kind of public warning about Mangoes. They are not as innocent as they look and the sweet perfume of their scent masks the fact that they reek of danger. Once a mango has you in its evil clutches, you are done for...Okay, so that may have been a wee bit dramatic, but seriously out of all the food I have given River and Indigo so far - Mangoes have wreaked the most havoc.
Anyway, I am happy and relieved to say that, bar a few teething issues, such as Indigo refusing to open her mouth every time a spoon of food was in the remote vicinity, and after the great mango incident described above, weaning seems to be going very well indeed!
Pear and Mango are firm favourites. They both hate Butternut Squash (Indigo tries to make herself sick if any of it gets even close to her mouth). Sweet Potato, Blueberries, and carrots are acceptable and they both really love toast. So we are getting there.
I have posted some dinner-time pictures below.  Bon Appétit!
