In light that it is International Women's day, I have been thinking about all things female, and being a lover of little lists I came up with the below. The lists are just for fun and I thought that I should include cons as well as pros, as I am a big fan of balance. I have left tons off, so it is only a bit of a taster menu but I hope you enjoy.
Why being a woman sucks (in no particular order)
1. Periods
They are icky, painful, expensive and sympathy is usually sparse on the ground. Your only friends during the 3 to 7 (or however many hell days you suffer) are painkillers and your faithful hot water bottle. It is a curse to woman kind (in my opinion).
2. Child birth
You could say that the gift is what you get at the end (the child, or children in my case) but seriously does labor have to be so painful?
3. Double standards
Pay scales are still tipped towards the men, as well as some people thinking the ‘little lady’ may need a bit of help with getting things done in the beer drinking, burping manly world we live in....
4. Menopause
Just when you breathe a sigh of relief that the periods are over with, then come the intense hormonal mood swings and hot sweats (this is what I’ve heard) - so not looking forward to this!
Why being a woman rocks (in no particular order)
1. The ability to have children
Giving birth to a child changes your whole life. It is like going from living in black and white to Technicolor.I won't be clicking my ruby slippers anytime soon.
2. Breasts
Let’s face it they are awesome, they look great and they are very good for producing the “got cake” effect on men (and some women too). If you’ve got em, flaunt them. On a more practical level they also provide food for your babies (and you can't really beat that).
3. Double standards
Whether it is drinks, lunches or dinners it is more likely this will get bought for a woman than a man -Though men, do not fear, chivalry is not dead with all women, you may get the odd coffee thrown your way! Hmm what else...Women can cry whilst watching movies and people will just chalk it up to the fact that you are female. Being an emotional pot of gold is allowed.
4. Women live longer than men!
According to this article I read in Time magazine women live 5 to 10 years longer than men, and 85% of people over 100 years old are women! Yay for us chicks!
I love being a woman. Pain and ickiness aside we are a damn fine sex! Happy International Women's Day!
