Won’t You Be My…acquaintance

Posted on the 18 September 2011 by Drowqueen @theburnedhand

Facebook is at it again for those of you who have accounts.  Pretty soon we will be able to send “acquaintance” requests…formerly known as friend requests.  It now asks me “what’s on your mind” and then who do I want to share it with.  I have new options of close friends and acquaintances.  I now get to distinguish between the two.  Not only that, but it also thought I need to organize my friends into nice, neat little lists.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t really fit into one category.  I am unique and so are my friends.

I have talked about this before, but this is a social networking site.  Socialize means to be friendly.  There are some people who are NOT friendly at all and need to get off of Facebook because all they do is complain about everything on there and every “friend” they have.  I rarely delete people, but I actually had to delete someone for telling me what to do on my own FB status once.  They must hate the first amendment.  Anyway, the point is, if I added you, no matter what has happened in the past, I think you deserve a chance.  If you disagree with my politics, my thoughts, my opinions, it is your prerogative to delete me if you see fit; however, I don’t do things that way.  I believe in the first amendment even if you are spouting off nonsense as long as it is not on my wall.  Your status is your own.

That being said, if you have deleted me because you don’t agree with my blog, my quotes, or my statements, so be it.  Life is short, and I am trying to carve out my own little niche of happiness.  I won’t begrudge yours.  You are not my acquaintances.  You are my friends.  Treat me as such and the feeling will be mutual.

“Your friends will know you better in the first minute you meet than your acquaintances will know you in a thousand years.”  ~Richard Bach
