...and don't forget to smile
Happy Labor Day!
It’s the unofficial end of summer and your last day to wear white (fashionably).
That and a national holiday dating back to 1894 and meant to celebrate the social and economic contributions of workers.
In a somewhat modern, ironic twist, most of the people deserving of this celebration are probably still working today.
Sadly, they’re probably not happy about it either. Of course, according to a recent survey of workers, they probably won’t be happy about it tomorrow either.
The survey shows that general job satisfaction has been declining since 2008 when the analysis began, and is continuing to drop.
Of course with the unemployment rate where it is you could say they’re at least happy to have a job, but getting little pleasure from the job itself.
Which is just bad for business. Seriously, it is. People work better when they’re happy with their job.
Seems like a little thing, but fewer and fewer people can find it these days.
So I have an idea. All of those lucky enough to have the holiday off, let’s take a moment to appreciate those who don’t.
As you go about your holiday wheeling and dealing, be kind to those who are still working for you.
Who knows, maybe just a moment of kindness could last a little bit longer.
Seems like the least we can do.
