I don't know what was up with me, but I was in a malaise of sorts today. A malaise, a low motivation sort of day.
I finally got so sick of myself I got up to create something that would inspire me to actually do something! I made a deck of "do something" cards. A deck for "Fifteen minutes of festivity!" That is the right amount of time to get my blood pumping and my inspiration flying again.
They are small, maybe a couple inches by a couple inches and not even uniformly sized! They were made from a painting I created almost two years ago. I simply cut a strip from the painting and cut it into rectangles and wrote tasks I could do quickly and easily for moments like that one.
You know, things like, "Outside Studio" - which is the first card I picked which means, "get your bottom outside and paint for a bit!" even if only 15 minutes, its better than keeping my bottom on the recliner thinking about how much my malaise reminds me of the smell of a smoking, burnt pan someone left eggs boiling and forgot in the kitchen.
Not that I have ever left a pot of boiling eggs on the stove so long that I forgot and boiled all the water away.
On the cards I also wrote things like, "clean counters" and "call a family member" and "rest for 15 minutes." Each activity, I knew, would assist in the creative process.
The good news is, these sweet little nothing cards - oh, I laminated them, too - helped me to move forward. I started work on an upcycled high chair and continued work on my "Mother Goose". Still waiting for the intention stool to be finished - ideas are firmly in place - just need to execute them with supplies I haven't purchased yet.
I also took photos and wrote a poem.
Best of all, I figured out a way to fill in those gaps when I think I am "unable to figure out what to do next." I'll more than likely blog about that tomorrow - when I have more time.
And in other news - guess who is now Granny Julie?
That's right - Jaxon was born this morning.
I slept terribly and wished I was in Florida for the event, but the little guy was four weeks early and he is three thousand miles away. I hope to visit in January.
And to think I went to bed thinking I had nothing to add for Art Every Day Month today!
