What is my favorite quote?

It’s difficult to pick just one quote. I’ve had different favorites over the years, depending on what has been going on in my life. Different messages have appealed to me at different times. At this point in time, the phrase “all’s well that ends well” appeals to me. I’m not sure this classifies as a quote though.

All’s Well That Ends Well is a play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1604 and 1605. Originally, the play was classified as one of Shakespeare’s comedies. Now it’s considered by some critics to be one of his problem plays. It’s hard to label it as either a comedy or a tragedy. Much like real life, it has its ups and downs.

I adore fairytales, innocuous Hallmark-style movies, and novels that end with the promise of happily ever after. For entertainment purposes, I don’t enjoy watching or reading anything that’s too real. The reality of the 21st century is rarely entertaining or enjoyable.

Real life is complicated, chaotic, and often cruel. The media, in all its many modern shapes and forms, seems intent of reporting nothing but bad news, fake news, and worse than bad news. I know that it’s prudent to stay up to date on current events of this crazy world that we live in, and I do my best to do so, but it leaves me with a bad aftertaste in my mouth and the sense of impending doom crawling up my spine.

All’s well that ends well. Those words bring me hope. Perhaps, one day, life will imitate art, and the human race will learn to coexist in harmony.
