What is my favorite item of clothing?
I can’t write this post without touching on the subject of shopping. Incidentally, I’ve just returned home from a shopping spree. Well, calling it a “spree” might be exaggerating. A spree by definition is an unrestrained indulgence in or outburst of an activity <a buying spree>. I did not indulge without restraint.
I recently stumbled upon an article that claimed, when it comes to shopping, women are from Nordstrom’s and men are from Sears.
Women enjoy meandering through sprawling clothing and accessory collections. On their way to the lingerie floor, they take a detour through the shoe department at a leisurely pace even if they don’t need a new pair of shoes. They pause to spray a perfume samples on themselves before, maybe, making a purchase. For men, shopping is a mission. They head out to buy a targeted item and then flee the store as quickly as possible.
I’m generalizing, of course, but men buy and women shop. Women tend to be more invested in the shopping experience. Men set out to accomplish a goal.
There was a point in time when I could while away several hours browsing through department stores, high street shops, and quaint little boutiques. This is no longer the case. I can’t put my finger on when it happened but, when it comes to shopping, I have adopted a typically male mindset. These days, my shopping trips are short and focused. I hone in on my target like a heat-seeking missile, make the purchase, and head back home.
Today, I needed a couple of new sweaters since winter seems intent on lingering for the next few months. Much to my delight, the first store I entered was selling off items at half their original price. So, come to think of it, I did indulge just a little after all… I bought three cashmere turtleneck sweaters instead of two. It seemed silly not to. They were at half their original price!
I suspect you’ve already guessed what my favorite item of clothing is. I’ll tell you anyway… my favorite item of clothing is a cashmere turtleneck sweater.
