I'm not sure when taking one word as a yearly focus came into vogue, but I remember thirteen years ago I would claim themes for the year as well as something even better, something more fitting to me and something that definitely kept stirring my passion on a regular basis: a monthly theme.
I still remember one of my first monthly themes was "Intentional Abundance" and my, oh my, it was an abundant time in my life!
This month, my theme is "Absolutely Divine" and naturally, I find myself gravitating to the spiritual, the core of myself. I found myself talking to Samuel this morning about why we should be compassionate to the homeless. I shared a family story briefly about how my Grandmother would feed whomever showed up at her door during the Depression because that was what one did.
I may have done this normally, but I could feel my monthly theme rising up through my words. I could feel passion fireworks taking off in the car.
It was, in fact, absolutely divine.
So, what can you do to begin creating a monthly theme?
You can still do it for the rest of October, if you would like - or whatever month you are in.
First, brainstorm your overall life goals and intentions. This may include projects or projects you wish you were working on - all of these areas point toward passion. They can't help themselves.
Second, take a few minutes away from your list before going back with a fresh mind to circle the top 2 or three possibilities.
Third, play with combining any of those top three, but be sure to keep the theme in as few words as possible. That way it is easier to remember, like a brief catchphrase you may continue to use as your month continues.
I know at the end of October, I will look back and see indications of "Absolutely divine" all over my reflections and my blogposts.
Who wouldn't want all that passion overflowing in all aspects of life?
Go ahead. Do it. Play with your monthly themes in order to stir up, discover and rediscover passion in your life right now.
